CHAPTER 05

“Well...fuck,” Jared muttered.

It had all been going so well. It had been a great three days, actually. Although the past eight hours had actually been kind of shitty. After they’d gone on their vast and great spending spree, essentially emptying their bank accounts, (he’d checked, collectively, between all of them, they had like three hundred credits, which was nothing when you had to fuel your own ship), they’d begun heading straight for the (hopefully) final member of their team. Vix was on a lunar colony three days away.

And Jared had promptly delved into his job of repairing and performing maintenance on their vessel. It had been fantastic. For those two days, he was working, he was into it, he was in the zone, losing himself in the simple maintenance. He pulled open panels, took apart machinery, ran tests, checked and rechecked pieces of equipment, reassembled the things he pulled apart...it was one of the things he enjoyed the most.

In between that, sleep, and food, he was doing his current favorite thing: fucking his friends. Or, more specifically, fucking Lindsay. She’d become a full-blown addict now that he and Angel had opened the door on her submissive side. He’d dominated her five more times since they’d finished the spree and he had to give it to her, for being so skinny, she was pretty tough. Just last night he’d done the whole ‘fuck her awake’ thing after she’d heard about him doing it with Angel and she’d had quite the orgasm from that.

So had he.

But as he’d gotten to work on the third day early this morning, he’d come up against an unexpected roadblock.

A part they had was not the part he needed. He needed a model EO-88, and what he’d ended up with was an EO-89 and, unfortunately, the two were simply not compatible. If it had just been that, it would’ve been annoying, but he could have just moved on back to work. Except that after about another hour of work, he ran into another problem: a missing part. He spent two hours looking for it everywhere and finally, frustrated, he’d returned to the list and compared it against their purchases and realized they’d forgotten it.

Which sent him down another rabbit hole of figuring out if anything else was missing. He’d only gotten through about thirty percent of all the work that needed to be done, even working as hard as he was. In the end, he’d determined that there were four parts missing. Well, not quite missing. The first being the wrong model, the second and third having slipped through the cracks of their search and just hadn’t been purchased, and the fourth...was just flat out missing. They had bought it, he’d found the digital receipt, but he couldn’t find the actual part anywhere , and he’d had pretty much everyone help him hunt it down.

Now he’d just finished confirming that there was actually a fifth piece they needed as well, another thing they’d bought and it looked like the piece they needed, but it was actually a totally different thing.
